All dogs need exercise, especially young puppies. And it is very unlikely for your dog to get the sufficient amount of exercise he needs just by sitting around the house, which is what most dogs do when they are left alone for many hours at a time.

If you are planning on getting two or more puppies, they will move and play around with one another. But a puppy by himself won’t do much more than make an occasional tour around the house, check the area, and then lie down.

Brushing a dog can be quite a challenge to some dog owners, especially when you own a long-haired breed. And let's face it, most of us do not have the time or the interest in braiding, curling, poofing, styling, or designing our dog’s hair. This article will brush up on a few tips that will guide you in brushing your dog’s coat more effectively and with the least amount of effort.

Young puppies are just too curious and active to sit still still and quite while you groom them. But the ones that learn how to sit nicely while being groomed will eventually learn to tolerate and even enjoy being brushed, bathed, trimmed, and clipped. A puppy that experiences all forms of being handled at an early age will be easily trainable and better socialized when around veterinarians, children, groomers, and pet sitters.

The key activity is to simply handle your puppy as often as you can during the day while concentrating on one particular part of the dog's body for each session. Spend a few minutes handling his feet, then the ears, etc.

All puppies need to get used to being groomed, and starting as early in its life as possible. Doing so will prevent future grooming problems from happening later on in their lives.

Whether your puppy has a short coat (Boxer, Basset Hound, Labrador Retriever), long coat (Lhasa Apso, German Long-haired Pointer, Samoyed) or one that falls somewhere in between, she’ll need to be groomed on a regular basis.

I absolutely love rubbing my dog's ears! Regardless of the shape and size, dog ears are adorable and most dogs melt with ecstasy when they get their ears rubbed. However, ear massages alone will not be enough to keep your dog or puppy's ears healthy.

Ears are one of the central breeding areas for yeast infections, mites, fleas, etc. and it is your responsibility to take good care of that area to prevent the buildup of microscopic dangers. You will need to keep your dog's ears free of moisture and build up of wax because parasites grow best in that type of environment.

Different Ears Mean Different Cleaning Needs

When it comes to puppy grooming, do not ignore proper eye care and safety. Some dog owners forget the little things when it comes to grooming their pet which can result in health problems in the future. Below are a few puppy eye-care pointers.

1. Guarding your puppy's eyes from injury is important so be sure to be overly conscious of your puppy's head when you are playing games that have potential consequences for injury to the eyes. Some example games to be careful of would be when you are kicking a ball around with your pup, playing fetch with a stick, or simply play-wrestling by using your hands.
